Principal's Message
FJ McElligott Intermediate Secondary School is located in the town of Mattawa, Ontario, and it is the home of the FJ McElligott Voyageurs!
Educational programming at FJ McElligott is offered from Grade 7 to Grade 12. We offer a regular English track system, as well as a French Immersion track system. Student support for learning is offered by quality, experienced teachers. Special supports are also available for students who require special education accommodations, and literacy/ math intervention at either the Intermediate or Secondary level. Along with core subject areas, we offer an array of elective courses in such areas as cooking, drama, music, arts, technological courses, and co-op work placements. We also offer an SHSM Outdoor Education Program for Gr. 11/12, and an accredited Hockey Canada Skills Academy course for Gr. 9/10 students.
FJ McElligott is a vibrant school with extra-curricular activities and special events going on for students of all age levels. Physical Education students are exposed to sports within the school that teach them not only skills, but also how to cooperate as a team member. For those students that enjoy the competitive side to sports, we offer the opportunity to join volleyball, basketball, badminton, baseball, golf, tennis, and track & field.
Staff and students also organize and participate in special events each year such as the Terry Fox Walk, theatre events, Winter Carnival activities, Blue & Gold spirit days, Indigenous Day, school field trips, and Graduations.
Nutrition and physical activity are important aspects of the students’ learning abilities. Through partnerships with Community Living, we are able to offer a Student Nutrition Program daily for any/ all students.
In closing, FJ McElligott Intermediate Secondary School is a tight knit community within itself. At FJ, we pride ourselves on the premise that each student matters, we know them all by name, and everybody is welcome. Parents and caregivers are an integral part of our team to providing a balanced approach to developing their children to well-rounded students and citizens of the world. With parents’/caregivers’ support and involvement with their children’s education, success is inevitable.
