ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA (OSSD) To earn a high school diploma in Ontario, students must:<\/p>\n Graduation Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n Thirty credits<\/b>\u00a0are required for students to earn a secondary school graduation diploma.<\/p>\n Students must earn the following\u00a018 compulsory credits:<\/b><\/p>\n In addition to the compulsory credits, students must complete 12 optional credits.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n Beginning September\u00a02022, the literacy graduation requirement is restored and students graduating in the 2022-23 school\u00a0year and beyond are required to meet this requirement.<\/p>\n All students must meet the secondary school literacy graduation requirement to earn their high school\u00a0diploma.<\/p>\n For most students, this means passing the\u00a0Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT<\/abbr>)<\/a>.<\/p>\n Students who do not successfully complete the\u00a0OSSLT<\/abbr>\u00a0have other opportunities to meet the literacy graduation requirement. Students can contact their school principal to find out about these\u00a0options.<\/p>\n Beginning with students that entered Grade\u00a09 in the 2020-21 school year, students must earn at least two\u00a0online learning credits to get their Ontario Secondary School\u00a0Diploma.<\/p>\n The online learning graduation requirement also applies to adult learners that will be entering the Ontario secondary school system starting in 2023-24 school\u00a0year.<\/p>\n Students can count\u00a0one<\/strong>\u00a0secondary school credit that was earned during the province wide school closures (from April\u00a02021 to June\u00a02021) towards the two online learning credits that they need to graduate. This applies to all Grade\u00a09 students who were learning remotely due to the province wide school\u00a0closures.<\/p>\n Parents who wish to opt out or exempt their child from the online graduation requirement must complete the opt-out form available from their child\u2019s school board. Exemption from the online learning graduation requirements may be requested\u00a0by:<\/p>\n Students are required to complete 40 hours of community involvement activities in order to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD<\/abbr>). Students working towards their\u00a0OSSD<\/abbr>\u00a0should make sure they meet these graduation requirements in time for their graduating\u00a0year.<\/p>\n Students can start accumulating their community involvement hours in the summer before entering Grade\u00a09.<\/p>\n Students who are looking for community involvement opportunities\u00a0should:<\/p>\n If approved by your school\u2019s principal, students may count the following towards their community involvement hours:<\/p>\n
